How Bhagavad Gita Changed My Life |Part 2 |The Enemy Within

Soon things started getting worse emotionally, physically and now academically also. My grades started becoming worse and the time came where I actually couldn't understand what is being taught in the classroom by the teacher.

Once I went to ask a doubt to my teacher she tried her best to explain to me but I couldn't understand. The teacher said, "Akshay this is a very complex problem for you to understand  at this stage,  you better spend some good amount of time understanding basics first."

Indirectly she meant you are not qualified to understand this now. I think that is true in any field I can't just go to Einstein and expect him to prove to me what is Theory of relativity unless I myself have some training in fundamental physics.

Sometimes people say "WHAT IS THE PROOF THAT GOD EXISTS".

To understand any kind of proof we need to be qualified in the field. Spend some time understanding the basics of that field whether it is physics or mathematics and for this particular question, it is spiritual science.

As Krishna also confirms this to Arjuna in Gita Chapter 10 Verse 10.

To those who are constantly devoted and worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.

Here Krishna clearly tells that first you start working as per my instruction then I will give you the intelligence to come to me or understand me.

On new year night, I went out with my friends to party & ended up drinking beer that night. I was amazed that my hands were holding the beer bottle instead of a pen or books. I couldn't comprehend why the thought of my parents didn't come to my mind at all.

The same question was asked by Arjuna to Krishna in Gita 3 Chapter  Verse 36

Arjuna said: O descendant of Vrsni, by what is one impelled to sinful acts, even unwillingly, as if engaged by force?

and Krishna gives a beautiful reply in the next verse

The Blessed Lord said: It is lust only, Arjuna, which is born of contact with the material modes of passion and later transformed into wrath, and which is the all-devouring, sinful enemy of this world.

As Krishna clearly tells it is lust (tendency to enjoy against the laws of God) only which impels one to do act sinfully. This is very clear in the data given by the Addiction Center.

This is very interesting to read that Krishna on the battlefield instead of pointing out great valiant warriors in the opposite army like Bhishma, Dhrona, Shalya, Kripa, Karna etc as an enemy he is telling LUST is your greatest enemy.

I have seen many of my friends struggling to give the different kinds of addiction but they say they are forced by some internal force(lust).

Of course in subsequent verses, Krishna also gives the solution about how to overcome this lust.
What most of the de-addiction clubs, centers etc are trying to do.

Thus knowing oneself to be transcendental to material senses, mind and intelligence, one should control the lower self by the higher self and thus—by spiritual strength—conquer this insatiable enemy known as lust.

One of the ways of developing spiritual strength is reading Bhagavad Gita.

Gita is not just about a question asked by Arjuna whether I should fight or not? If that would have been the case then Gita would be of one word "Fight".

But Arjuna doesn't ask a question on an individual level rather he takes the conversation on the universal level by asking the question what is his dharma (duty)? Krishna taking the opportunity gives a universal answer.

This is was the most dangerous situation I was in, I didn't know who was the real enemy and the worst part the enemy was within. This was obvious because I never read Gita till that time.

These weren’t their only habits some of them who were amorous, kindled the habit of watching pornography in others. This was the only thing remaining. One by one many of them got addicted to this.

Especially I felt very much pity for those parents who didn’t have enough salary to pay the fees and here was the son who was falling into this bottomless well. I could see those who were involved in this were losing their innocence, charm & temper. Many of them ended up fighting for small issues & were not happy anymore.

                                                                                          ---x---

If we see the world around us everything is taken care like starting from the emotional needs we have a family, physical needs we have the stuff to eat and drink, health we have natural medicine, oxygen to breathe etc.

If we extrapolate the logic if everything is provided by the creator then he should also provide the absolute knowledge to live happily as this is also one of the needs. Gita is one of the ways to fulfill that intellectual need.
